As one of the key technologies of wireless communication systems, MultipleInput Multiple Output (MIMO) provides high system capacity and robustness. TwoMIMO schemes, multiplexing and diversity have their own advantages anddisadvantages, and adapts to various environments. And a new MIMO transmittechnology, called Spatial Modulation (SM) chooses the active transmit antennaindices based on input bits. As only one antenna transmits the corresponding data ineach time slot, the inter channel interference (ICI) is efficiently avoided. Also thedesign of SM receiver can be simplifed with the single radio structure. And SM hasattracted scholarly attention in recent years. This thesis focus on SM technology, and the optimization methods both in thetransmitters and receivers are researched, respectively. Also the proposed algorithmsare verified with the simulation tool Matlab. In Chapter1, backround and research status of MIMO technology, especially theSpatial Modulation (SM) are introduced. In Chapter2, system models and principles of three multiple antennastechnologies are discribed, as Vertical Bell Labs Layered Space-Time (V-BLAST),Space Time Block Code (STBC), SM. We also briefly anlayse and compare theseschemes. In Chapter3, the SM system without feedback link is discussed. The drawback ofconventional SM mapping rule is analyse, and then a new one is proposed, whichprovides better system performance without extra cost.In Chapter4, the SM system with feedback link is discussed. The theory andproblem of adaptive spatial modulation (ASM) is first introduced. And a new partialfeedback preprocessing algorithm is proposed, which solves the bit dislocationproblem and achieve better performance. In Chapter5, the design of SM receivers is researched. Firstly, severalconventional SM detectors are introduced, respectively. And a new distance based orderd detection algorithms is proposed, which can achieve a tradeoff betweenperformance and complexity by choosing a suitable parameter value. Moreover, thisnew algorithm is extended to coded SM system, and effectively simplifies thecalculation. In Chapter6, the work of thesis is concluded, and the future research directionsare discussed.
