Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET), as the main part of the Intelligent Transpor-tation System, is designed to provide open safety service for public road traffic. Specif-ically it provides security alarm information to vehicles by broadcasting security noticeson the shared wireless channel. Therefore, how to effectively reduce broadcasting pack-et redundancy, and improve the effective utilization of the channel are particularly im-portant.This article is relying on the National Natural Science Foundation projectTransmission strategy about security information on VANET. Firstly, the protocol stackof Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) is deeply analyzed and accom-plished the implementation in OPNET. Then, it designed a new broadcasting strategyfor security information which aimed at the Roadside Unit (RSU) on VANET networkstructure, the broadcasting strategy has been proved to have better performance by si-mulation.According to the project, it is required to study VANET’s safety informationbroadcast strategy in OPNET simulation environment, while OPNET has not beenachieved WAVE protocol stack, so this article aimed at achieving WAVE protocol stackin OPNET, which will provided simulation platform of VANET for the follow-up of thevarious studies. First, the article got a deep and detail leaning and researching on WAVEprotocol stack. Then it designed a complete implementation in OPNE and particularlydescribed the process of the implementation. At last, it proved the correctness of theWAVE protocol stack in OPNET through the same scene in NS2network simulationenvironment. This article designed an RSU-Based (RB) broadcasting strategy for security infor-mation in the VANET simulation environments which use in a VANET network struc-ture existing the RSU. In the RB broadcasting strategy, RSU broadcasts safety messagesrelated to the accident periodically to notify the OBUs within RSU’s transmition rangeof safety messages, these OBUs are prevented from forwarding the safety messages, andgenerating safety packets for the OBUs which didn’t receive the safety messages. As a result, RB broadcasting strategy effectively reduces the number of forwarding safetypackets, reduces the message redundancy and improve the effective utilization of thechannel. Finally, this article compared the performance of RB broadcast strategy and thesimple flooding broadcast strategy throughput simulation. The result showed that RBbroadcast strategy is effective in reduing the number of forwarding safety packet, re-ducing the amount of redundancy and improving the effective utilization of the channel.
