At present, there are a variety of SAR target detection algorithms, for instance,CFAR detection method, multi-resolution detection method, phase-based ororientation-based detection method. Among them, the phase-based detection method isthe latest and the most effective method. Since it is not matured, further improvement isrequired to develop this method. In this research, CFAR detection method as well as the2L-IHP algorithm is investigated. A SAR automatic detection module for marine pointtarget is proposed based on the results obtained, which are compared with theexperiment data. The main content is as follows:1. Domestic and international literatures of automatic target detection andidentification of SAR image have been reviewed to clarify the application backgroundand its significance.2. The image features of the marine targets are studied by considering the SARimage characteristics and the marine targets structure. A detailed introduction of sometypes of clutter distribution modes in recent literatures has been proposed as the usefulbasis for the next section.3. Some basic methods for marine target detection are discussed in detail. Themain focus is on the principle of CFAR detection, several CFAR detection algorithms,and the corresponding application procedures. The sub-aperture coherent method basedon the phase information is also investigated. Accounting for these studies, the2L-IHPalgorithm based on the phase information has been revised and improved.4. A set of software for SAR image marine target detection has beenaccomplished, which has the ability to analyze the platform of SAR image processingsystem. The software structure and the function modules are described in this section.Finally, according to the real SAR image processing platform, the software andhardware environment of the SAR image marine targets detection processing system,and its application methods are demonstrated. The experimental results obtained fromactual images of SAR are compared to the analyzed outcome.5. The last section is devoted to conclude the whole research work and indicatepossible further investigations.
