Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) has been widely applied in both civilian andmilitary environments. But its application is facing a series of problems, especially theproblem of resources limitation including bandwidth resources, energy resources andthe cache resources. Wireless network faces natural lack of bandwidths and theoscillation of bandwidths caused by the mobility. Wireless devices are powered by thebatteries and the nergy resouces are limited. Even though there is power supply for thetransmitting equipments, MANET is also facing the transmit power limitation andenvironmental protection issue. Cache resouces are also one of the restricted resourcesin MANET. The increasing demands of data applications and data rate result in theshortage of cache spaces. Consequently, the resource management of MANET isreceiving more and more attention.Studies have shown that network coding techniques can effectively improve theperformance of wireless network. However, most of the existing researches combiningwith routing problems, security issues, P2P file sharing, and robustness issues are rarelycombined with the resource management of MANET. In this thesis, in MANET, weanalyze and research the issue of resource management with network coding technique. We mainly focus on the following two aspects.(1) We study the key technique of applying network coding technique in wirelessmulti-rate network. Simply maximize the coding opportunities and gains withoutconsidering the factor of rate may lead to some bottleneck links. For this phenomenon, through reasonable design of power allocation and rate adaptation algorithm, wepropose an energy-efficient network coding scheme with multi-rate adaptation, calledeCOPE (energy-efficient COPE). We elaborate the design ideas of eCOPE, propose twokey algorithms, implement functional modules of the algorithms according to themodular design approach and implement eCOPE in NS-2. The simulation results showthat eCOPE, which combine network coding gains and the multi-rate characteristics ofthe wireless environment, can effectively improve network throughput and reduce transmission delay, reach high energy efficiency, improve the overall networkperformance and achieve effective resource management of energy (power).(2) We study the scheme design combining network coding in cooperative cachingscenario. Cooperative caching technology can effectively improve data accessibility andreduce the overhead of data access. While applied in MANET, it faces severe limitationof cache resource. Applying network coding technique in cooperative caching scenarioand fully exploiting the idle cache spaces in low activity nods and potential gain ofnetwork coding, we propose a a cooperative caching scheme based on node activity andnetwork coding techniques, called NC-COCA (Network Coding Cooperatvie Caching). We minutely describe the design ideas of NC-COCA and the form of each functionalmodule, and modle it. In order to analyse the performance of NC-COCA, we implementit in NS-2. The simulation results show that, without consideration of dramatic changesin node activity, NC-COCA can be improve data request hit rate and reduce the latencyof data requests to achieve efficient management of cache resources, at the expense ofsacrificing some packet interaction overhead, improve the utilization rate of the cachespace and increase the MANET system capacity and overall performance while cacheresource constrained. In summary, this thesis applies network coding in MANET, efficiently managesenergy (power) and cache resource and designs resource management strategies withnetwork coding technology. Meanwhile, it optimizes the design of resourcemanagement algorithms and strategies to support the application of network coding inMANET and further improves network performance.
