Fluid is closely related to human life and production, from the surrounding air and moving ocean to rivers, lakes, oil and blood. The flow velocity and direction are the important parameters of fluid. Grasping the foundation of fluid is to grasp the information of fluid in speed and direction. At present, it is difficult to achieve the goal, which is to measure simultaneously the three-dimensional direction and flow velocity. Therefore, it is significant to design and research the new three-dimensional flow velocity sensor.Firstly, this paper elaborates the background and significance of research on flow velocity sensor, summarizing the operating principles, advantages and disadvantages of various types of flow velocity sensors existing in both domestic and abroad. Then, the paper summarizes the insufficiency of its research, and presents the main research contents and the problems to be solved.Secondly, the paper describes the basic characteristics of hydromechanics and gives the detail to the flow boundary layer theory and the rounding drag force. At the same time, it focuses on elaborating the derivation of CFD’s control equations and explaining the basic theory, the working process and the software elementary knowledge of CFD.Thirdly, in view of the insufficiency of current research on flow velocity sensor, the paper proposes the design of one flow velocity sensor’s structure which can measure the three-dimensional flow direction, elaborating its principle of work, the function of different parts of this structure and the choice of material, etc. Meanwhile, it makes theoretical analysis and computation to the structure and gives the measurement formula of flow velocity and direction. Then it carries on a flow field analysis of the different parts of this structure with the help of fluid simulating analysis software to research their pressure information and effect on the flow fields, which gives the relationship between the structural baffle plate pressure and the flow velocity and direction. The analysis results indicate the feasibility and the rationality of this design.Finally, this paper makes a static characteristics analysis and modal analysis of this sensor’s structures. Then this paper makes an improved design and analysis of the structure of this sensor, with the help of the flow field’s analysis results. These will provide some theoretical supports for the research and development of the measurement of the three-dimensional flow velocity and direction sensors.
