Augmented reality technology is a new multi-disciplinary overlapping researcharea, which has already expanded to military, industry, medical, entertainment,exhibition, tourism and other fields. In recent years, augmented reality technology hasbeen developed in the publishing industry. Combined with the traditional printingtechnology, augmented reality technology brings readers wonderful experience inmultimedia, multi-dimensional interaction and combination of virtuality and realitythrough computer screen.Agmented reality technology keeps the readers’ reading habits for traditionalpublications and expands to the three-and multi-dimensional interaction field. Withaudio effects, it not only adds the amount of information but also enhances theentertainment, especially suitable for children and youngsters.Augmented reality technology has been used in publications in the world foronly a few years. Although the technology is relatively mature abroad, it hasregistered patents and the prices are very high. While it is rarely used in domestic,especially in children’s publications. Because pop-up books developed by augmentedreality technology are funny, interactive, lifelike and creative, they are very suitablefor children to read, which can play an important role in children’s learning stage andtherefore has broad development space for application.Based on above reasons, the author carries out a research in "the application andrealization of augmented reality technology in children’s publications”. This paperdefines the main concepts of the augmented reality technology and children’spublications, expounds the importance of the application of augmented realitytechnology in children’s publications, analyzes and summarizes the differencesbetween the augmented reality technology and virtual reality technology. At the sametime, this paper also compares the advantages and disadvantages of traditionalpublications with augmented reality publications. On this basis, combined with thechildren’s education and children’s psychological characteristics, with digital scriptlanguage,3D construction model and interavtive animation technology, anaugmented reality children’ pop-up book has been designed and realized.This study is a useful attempt to apply augmented reality technology to children’s publications, boosting the application of augmented reality technology inchildren’s publications. It is a meaningful expolration to advance the traditionalpaper publications in digital era and with digital technology.
