E-mail is a very important application. It plays an important role in the moderninformation society. Users demands for the reliability, security, and privacy ofE-mail services, are getting higher and higher, and more demands are required.The research background and significance of the e-mail system as well as thecommonly used technology for the e-mail system development are introduced in thearticle. Software in accordance with the system functionality is divided into five parts:Login authentication, Folder management, Mail management, Address bookmanagement, and Private mailbox settings.Then the system is designed according to the demand. The mail system usesdistributed system architecture, hardware performance and give full play to the heightof a single point of disaster recovery technology. The system uses the secondarystorage mechanism, a variety of advanced techniques, such as multi-level cachesystem to guarantee the system ultra stable operation for a long time without down.The system uses seven PC servers and external storage devices to the mail system asthe hardware platform.The system is a new recovery and confidentiality mail system based on strutsframework structure. First, it can revoke the e-mail which has been sent. Second,users can restore the deleted messages to the inbox and restore the information fromthe address book. The feature of security means that users can move the confidentialmail to a confidential box according to their own needs.Finally, on the basis of analysis of the system data, we use the B/S developmentmodel and the three-tier to achieve the development of the system. And we use theJ2EE technology. Conclusion has been draw from system testing that system dailyflow can reach20k*10Feng*(20million users*50%) about20G bytes; averagebandwidth of the system can be achieved200Gbit/43200(12hours*60min*60seconds), approximately4.62Mbit.Mail system has been integrated as part of the Golden Shield Project ofZhongshan City Public Security Bureau office automation and online Inspectorsystem upgrade project to the Zhongshan Municipal Public Security Bureau officeautomation systems, achieved good results in practical applications. Mail system ensures the transmission of confidential internal documents. The confidentiality ofpublic security work improved significantly. Recovery function and confidential mailsystem tailored for public security work has greatly improved work efficiency and hasbeen recognized by the majority of the police officers users as well as leaders.
