As the degree of automation of the industrial sector continues to strengthen,the fieldbus data transmission capabilities, device compatibility and developmentcosts have higher requirements. On the one hand, the traditional fieldbusstandard for transmission of control information, device compatibility betweendifferent manufactures of different fieldbus standard, its position in the field ofautomation declining; On the other hand, the Business Ethernet technologycontinues to evolve, the data transfer capabilities of the Ethernet technology ispowerful, device compatibility, and high technology is mature, the developmentcosts low so that we see the Ethernet technology used in the industrial field withgood prospects. Famous manufactures of the world’s major automation Ethernetsolutions depending on the development of industrial Ethernet standard. TheEtherCAT fieldbus technology is a real-time industrial Ethernet protocol isdeveloped by a German company named Beckhoff.EtherCAT Industrial Ethernet slave system based on STM32have beendesigned in this paper. At first, The paper introduced EtherCAT technologycharacteristics from a protocol point of view and analysis how the system worksand has this superior performance. Then, The paper described the composition ofthe EtherCAT slave device from the device perspective. The EtherCAT slavestation contains two parts: slave microprocessor part of the STM module andslave control part of ESC module. Each part starts from the corresponding corechip and focuses on interface in this design.The paper creative useSTM32chip’specific function named FSMC to read and write the externalmemory mechanism operating in the ESC module memory area. Finally, we testthe entire slave system. The test process is divided into three parts: Register test,State machine program test and Master-slave station system joint debugging. Itgives EtherCAT slave station the realization of function and performance.This design about EtherCAT slave station system is the first develop mentbased on STM32microprocessor. It give full play to the STM32in industrildesign field by its low cost of lower power consumption characteristics. Whilethe design directly the unique FSMC mechanism of STM32to read and write thememory of the ESC module and the system’s performance has been greatlyimproved.
