With the increasing demand of photoelectric tracking, high resolution and highframe rate image sensors became more and more widely used in the photoelectricmeasuring equipment, which results in a large quantity of the data computation andhigh reqirements of the transmission bandwidth. In order to break through thelimitations of existing image processing system on computation and transmission, thispaper presents a new design of image processing system based on VPX serial busstandard. On one hand, the VPX standard enhances the performance and reliability ofthe system by taking advantages of these following features: strong computingcapability, high bandwidth backplane connection, high degree of environmentaladaptability. On the other hand, the DSP+FPGA architecture, which is flexible andversatile, makes the design applied in different applications.According to the design, this paper conducted in-depth study of the VPXspecification. After a detailed analysis of the application needs of the system, wecompleted the schematic and high-speed PCB design of the image processing system.The new system developed by this paper will be mainly used in the multi-mode imagetracking and "smart head" of the image acquisition. Before the system beginning toprocess, this paper carried out a design of the data flow in the system. It included thereceiving and sending of fiber optic serial images, DSP and FPGA high-speedinterconnect based on SRIO protocol, shared memory between processors as well asexternal memory data storage.This Paper completed the hardware design of the image processing system, andachieved high-speed transmission and storage of data flow in it. The new design is aneffective solution to high-speed input and real-time processing of the image in thephotoelectric measuring device. It has a high value in engineering.
