After entering the21stcentury, population aging problem in China is becomingmore and more obvious. Increasing proportion of elderly people and empty-nestfamilies make health problem of old people became one of most concerned issues intoday’s society. Falls are the main cause of harm to the health of the elderly, and manyinternal and external factors can lead to the falls. Due to the increase of empty-nestfamilies, the old men are lack of care after falling down, which will result in moredamage to their bodies and even endanger their lives. Therefore, it’s of greatsignificance for the protection of the elderly health and social stability to develop a setof fall detection system which can alarm when the elderly falls and timely notify theothers to rescue them.This subject designs a three axis accelerometer-based wearable fall detectionsystem on the basis of analysis of the current domestic and international fall detectionresearch. The subject adopts a threshold value judgement algorithm that compromisesthe acceleration SMV characteristic value and inclination angle information and getsdifferent acceleration data of all kinds of falls and activities of daily life through alarge number of experiments. And then curve charts are drawn with Matlab tool, andthe proper acceleration SMV and inclination angle threshold value are finallydetermined. With the help of ST company’s LIS3DH type acceleration sensor to getreal-time human body acceleration data, calculate acceleration SMV and inclinationangle characteristic value, and then a fall is detected successfully by using thethreshold value judgment algorithm. The system implements sound and light alarmafter detecting a fall. It also reduces false positives and false negatives by themechanism of canceling the alarm and alarming actively. GPS function of wirelessmodule locates fall position and the position information is transferred to server viaCDMA network. Finally the server software realizes reverse geocoding of the positionand sends out text messages.It is proved by theory research and experiments that this system can accuratelydetect the elderly falling, give out alarms and fix the location after a fall. The systemhas high detection accuracy and stable and reliable performance, but still needs furtherimprovement. It has positive significance for the protection of the health of the elderly,relief of medical burdens and promotion of social harmony. It also has a very broadapplication and research prospect.
