In recent years, with the wide development of the wireless system and the use ofmany different wireless terminals, the performance of antennas has draw more and moreattention. In order to make the complicated system response more faster, antenna shouldenjoy a better effect and have a good bandwidth matching ability. Otherwise, theantenna will affect the performance of the system. Many large complicated systems willresolve into many subsystems, each subsystem contacts with others need a lot ofantennas to transmit directive. Because some antennas have no need to work all the time,and some have to work from time to time, there will be a huge waste of the bandwidthand the directivity. The electromagnelic compatibility problem of each subsystem willrestrict the development of the whole system.In order to solve the problems above, reconfigurable antenna, with patternreconfigurable, frequency reconfigurable, and polarization reconfigurable, can achievethat many different antennas physically mix together so that decrease the size andcomplexity of the system. More and more people pay attention to the design of thereconfigurable antenna.The traditional reconfigurable antenna is famous for frequency and patternreconfigurable antenna. Most reconfigurable antenna, could only achieve one of thefunctions above, but the antenna with both of the functions above could resolve theelectromagnelic compatibility problem actually. Pattern reconfigurable antenna couldhave many different patterns at the same frequency. Frequency reconfigurable antennacould enjoy the same pattern direction at different frequencies.The wireless integrated information systems are widely used, but the developmentof systems bandwidth and capability is subject to the numerous antennas used in thesystems. In order to reduce the complexity of the system, configurable antenna has beenpreferred. Especially in the MIMO system, patten configurable antenna can increase thediversity gain, accordingly the capability and the speed of the system will augment.However, most existing patten configurable antenna either has a complex structure orpossesses a small change in patten. For this reason, this article raises a novelconfigurable antenna based on metamaterial structure has been presented in this paper.Without multi-feed or mechanical spindle, it can achieve configurable patten changed in360degree only by peripherals circuit, and realize multi-frequency switch.
