Interpretation is a way to analyze and reveal the significance of message by usingsignals, and its’ purpose is to turn the significance outside into part of our thought.Understanding of society is the result of significance interpretation and theprecondition of social behavior.People use various communication signals to interpret the significance ofinformation, in order to realize their understanding of society. Understanding ofsociety is influenced a lot by the angle and depth, as well as the orientation ofsignificance interpretation.There are three meanings of understanding of society: the first is to emphasis thesocial property of peoples’ understanding; the second is to consider society as thesubject of understanding, so that social understanding is completed by the wholesociety; the third is to make society as the object of understanding, so it is the wayhow people understand the society. The paper is tend to the third meaning ofunderstanding of society, and gives consideration to the other two meanings.The research method of the paper is the method of Philosophical Hermeneutics.The paper analyzes the relationship between the significance interpretation andunderstanding of society by making research on the transformational structure ofinformation, the form and interpreting way of communication, the interpretingcharacteristics of mass media and the background of intercultural communication.Finally, it clarifies that social understanding plays an important role in one’sself-understanding and self-surpass, and draws the conclusion that both the macrocontrol and micro control of communication in pseudo-environment has a big effecton understanding of society.
