Many secondary vocational school students failed in the entrance examination for high school and their English reading level is very low. They are made to learn English with a negative attitude and not interested in English reading. English becomes a burden for them. Besides, vocational school students’ individual differences are more and more obvious, which should also attract more attention.Based on the student-centered approach, Nondirective Teaching Mode can not only arouse the students’interest but also help to cultivate a positive learning attitude. And the Level-teaching method is an effective measure to promote different leveled students to make progress. Thus, the author applied Nondirective Teaching Mode with Level-teaching method to English reading teaching to reveal its positive function.Two hypotheses were put forward:1. The application of Nondirective Teaching Mode and the Level-teaching method to English reading teaching in vocational school Grade One can increase the students’English learning interests and help to cultivate the students’positive attitudes towards English reading;2. The application of Nondirective Teaching Mode and the Level-teaching Method to English reading teaching in vocational school Grade One can improve the students’English reading scores.The experiment was conducted in two classes of Grade One in Tianjin Xiqing vocational school.81students in Class One and Class Two were the subjects. Class One was the experimental class and Class Two was the control class. Nondirective Teaching Mode with the Level-teaching Method was adopted in Class One and teacher-centered teaching method was used in Class Two. both quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis were used to collect and analyze data. For the former, classroom observation and test were adopted; for the later, questionnaire was used.The experiment lasted for nearly a school year, the author found the students in the experimental class took part in the class activities more actively; the learning interest was enhanced and a good and responsible learning attitude was gradually formed; the students of different levels made an improvement in varying degrees.
