Development Of Logistics Optimization Teaching Experiment System Based On POEM Improving Platform

Since2000, after joining the WTO, import and export trade growing rapidly, whilepromoting the development of modern logistics industry. While the high costs oflogistics, which accounted for approximately17%of GDP in China, has been a bigproblem. Thus how to save the costs is up to an urgent issue. Rational and efficientdistribution system is the basic to ensure the smooth running of the logistics system,which has a significant effect on the costs and benefits. Besides, proper andreasonable arrangements for the distribution line have many benefits, such as savingtime, reducing costs and upgrading customer service, etc. The above are proved to bean effective way to strength the company’s competitiveness. But it is also a complexityand difficulty.Logistics optimization is of high complexity and difficulty in calculation. Using thePOEM as the path to the logistics can make the above problems simple and practical.It is a good way in analyzing warehouse modeling and solving optimization problems.With the help of experiment, students can obtain the ability of problem solving andanalytical skills.The POEM system includes three types of logistics optimization: distributioncenter management and optimization of the experimental vehicle schedulingoptimization, distribution routing optimization experiments, as well as an onlinemanagement system. Students and teachers can view, upload or download the resultsof the experiment and materials. The system is using Windows2000+IIS5.0+POEMas a development platform, Microsoft SQL Server2000as the back-end database,NCL as a development language, and the Browse/PoemServer as calculation model.
