| Children’s songs have features as simple, close to life, short and brief, bright rhythmic and easy to recite, and functions as playable, educational, knowledge-based and affective. These features and functions suit Thai elementary school students’ personality of being active and good at imitations. Therefore, children’s songs, as a kind of teaching materials, are widely applied in Chinese teaching classes for the past few years.This paper is divided into five chapters. In the first part of this thesis, the author introduces the research background and significance, objectives and approaches of the study, and then reviews the relevant literature. The second chapter elaborates on the features and functions of children’s songs, the characteristics of Thai elementary school students, and the adequacy of children’s songs for Chinese teaching. Chapter three proposes four principles for employing children’s songs in Chinese teaching in Thai elementary schools, which are: a) suitable for elementary students; b) on the same level with Thai students’ Chinese level; c) in accordance with teaching requirements; d) serve for the classrooms. Chapter four analyzes the different teaching results of skillfully inserting proper children’s songs in different teaching periods. The last part of this thesis furnishes a teaching evaluation and some reflections in the hope of providing reference for Chinese teaching in Thai elementary schools and improving the teaching effects.This paper discusses the application of children’s songs in Chinese teaching in Thai elementary schools based on the author’s own teaching practice, so the corpus in the thesis is mainly selected from the teaching practice. |
