So that people have a general understanding of the situation on the calligraphy collection of Zhang Yan.Zhang Yan as a private collector due to the great collection environment of Yuan Dynasty. This article discusses the objective and subjective factors:Objective factors was the retro style and a wide range of painting and calligraphy circulation;Subjective factors including Zhang Yan’s own family background, official career experience, scholarly gathering, and collection grade. About the good works that belong to the collector’s friends also an indispensable part of the calligraphy collection. Zhang Yan’s friends also the same period famous collectors, such as Zhao Mengfu, Qiao Kuicheng, Ke Jiusi. Collection of seals and inscriptions is also an integral part of the collection. The seals Zhang Yan has left in the world is not much, only a few square. Tiba can be seen frequently in his collections or the works have been scanned by he.due to the less information in current reference,there need a detailed introduction.the part of Collection is the main part in this paper, and it divided into three parts:collection introduction, a chapter of common connoisseurship and its research, collections inscriptions analysis, a more comprehensive understanding of its characteristics in the field of collection.Finally, Zhang Yan as a private collectors, his research information is still very limited, so this article for improving its investigation and evaluation has unusual significance, will offer a supplementarily and summaries to study the information of the Yuan Dynasty private collections.
