Factors Affect Personal Charitable Donation

In this era of advocacy to enhance the comprehensive national strength, charitable donation is an external symbol of social civilization. It directly reflects the level of development of a country’s social order and social cohesion.Meanwhile, China is in the process of building a well-off and socialist harmonious society in an all-round way. Philanthropy, as a hybrid of social distribution, plays an extremely important role to improve the construction of social security system. In addition, for China who has experienced5,000years civilization, personal donation has a tremendous potential.From the perspective of Pierre Bourdieu’s practical sociological theory, this article view the personal donations as one of social practice which is according to his structuralism model, and establish a research framework from three dimensions-habitus, capital and field. The article is mainly divided into three parts. The first part is the study design, including construction of elaborate theoretical models and definitions, the research framework, research hypotheses and research methods, introduction of the research object;The second part is the empirical analysis of the behavior of individual charitable donations, including data processing and sample statistics description, validity and reliability test, the correlation analysis and regression analysis between affecting factors and individual behavior, and construction of the road map.The third part is the summary and discussion, mainly analyze and discuss the effect and deficiency from habitus, capital and field, which is concluded from quantitative and qualitative research findings.At last, this article proposes corresponding suggestions and measures.This article shows individual charitable donations are highly related to charity awareness, economic factors,the transparency of charitable organizations, and tax deductions.Meanwhile, there are some situation can’t be ignored, such as low donation levels, citizen participation, the credibility crisis of charity, and unsound charity-related policies and regulations.Therefore, this article proposes the notion of building donor culture system and forming national donation ideals, which improves the charity legislative system and individual donation tax policies, strengthens charity organization and management, is the only way to promote the sound development of philanthropy.
