In recent years, with the deepening of social reform, the continuousdivision of the various interests, social movements occurs more and morefrequently, there are various forms of social movements all over China.The environmental social movements has been widespread concerned becauseof the universality and severity of environmental problems. Mobilizationis the core issue study of social movements.Nu river anti-dam movement gets more and more attention in Chinesesocial movements. Locating in world heritage the natural preserved zoneof Sanjiangyuan, Nu river gets high degree of concern at home andabroad. Nu river anti-dam movement began in2003, and it have not cometo a conclusion yet. The movement lasts long time and its structureis complex which is relatively rare in these years. Therefore, theauthors chose to Nu River river anti-dam movement to analyze itsmobilization structure.In this paper, the authors use the method of qualitative analysis,collect Nu River anti-dam movement related material, use state-societyrelations perspective, to elaborate the process of Nu River anti-dammovement mobilization process and construct Nu River anti-dam movementmobilization structure which is characterized as involvement ofgovernment forces and the object of mobilization is the public.China’scurrent state-society relationship which can be viewed as “the stateretreats as the society advances and state still shows the dominance instate-society relationship have large impact on Nu River anti-dammovement mobilization structure.First it form the opposition andcombine in the relationship of government and social organization.Secondsocial diversity provides a space for the environmental organizations.Third the state-society relationship providesopportunities and constraints for resources and tools in mobilization.Thelast it makes the mobilization object is the public,not the directlystakeholders.This paper attempts to focus on mobilization structure ofenvironmental social movements in the state-society relationshipperspective to made reference and experience on how we perceive, respondto social movements.
