The reflective teaching has become a trend of developing international teachers’ education, and the demand and direction in the national teacher education innovation. Since the idea is quite new and popular, almost all the teachers are actively engaged in trying it. Then, a question arises:how to do and what to do? How to do it better so as to bring about a desired result? These are the questions this paper attempts to answer, especially for the English teaching that takes place when students are in middle schools. This paper studied the related theory of reflective teaching by reviewing the relevant literature, elaborated the concept of reflective teaching, analysis of the theoretical basis for reflective teaching, features and content. Combined with some of the problems that may arise in the implementation of reflective teaching, the paper puts forward some strategies and suggestions to teachers in order to strengthen their reflective teaching.There are six parts in all in this thesis.The first part mainly introduces the research background, then discusses the importance and significance of reflective teaching in middle school English teaching.The second part elaborates the concept and features of reflective teaching, then summarize the domestic and foreign research situation of reflective teaching.The third part expounds the theoretical basis of reflective teaching. The reflective teaching takes the meta-cognition theory, critical theory and empiricism as a foundation.The fourth part is the practice of reflective teaching. This thesis researches the contents and strategies to implement reflective teaching in middle school under the guidance of meta-cognition theory, critical theory and empiricism. Teachers should implement the reflective teaching from these five aspects:teaching beliefs, teaching goal, teaching content, teaching method and teaching evaluation. The implementation methods mainly include teaching journals, lesson reports, audio or video recordings, observation, surveys and questionnaires.The fifth part makes a summary of the problems in the implementation of the reflective teaching, and puts forward the corresponding strategies and suggestions to solve these problems.The sixth part summarizes the main achievements and deficiencies and puts forward suggestions for future research.
