Speaking of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, it has always been difficult to teach the Chinese characters to foreign students, especially to non-Chinese Chinese learners. This paper aims to analyze the normal writing mistakes of radicals among Thai students, thus to find out the reasons and make suggestions to the teaching of radicals of Chinese characters, enabling the Thai students to learn Chinese better through the grasp of radicals. Targeting at the Thai students in Southwest University and using the original corpus of Thai students in HSK "dynamic composition corpus" of Beijing Language and Culture University, the author classifies the writing mistakes of radicals among Thai students into the followings by conducting questionnaires and collecting naturalistic corpus:stoke errors, the redundancy and missing of radicals, substitution with similar radicals in shape and in meaning, and disruption from traditional Chinese. Based on analysis of the mistakes, the author makes a conclusion of the reasons contributing to the writing mistakes:the lack of unified Chinese teaching standard, the complicated nature of Chinese characters itself and the inappropriate study motive, attitude and strategies, as well as the influence from teaching history and the negative transfer of mother tongue. In the end, some practical teaching proposals are made, including standardizing the syllabus of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, guiding students with clear study motives, right attitudes and appropriate strategies, as well as some specific teaching methods such as standardizing the writing of stokes and stoke orders.
