Research On Setting And Implementation Of Elective Course On American Webb School In California

The new curriculum reform has been performed for more than ten years. As a bright spot of the new high school curriculum reform, elective system provides effective protection mechanism for updating and restructuring of the course content, and lays an external foundation for the personalized learning of students. However, there are several problems in the elective course. For examples, the course content is not rich enough, students are lack of necessary elective guidance, and credit managements are not serious. To some extent, the setting and implementation of the elective courses are still affected by the entrance standards. The author want to study the elective courses of California Webb Schools. From the setting and implementation, the characteristics and causes are analyzed, and their successful experiences are learned.The dissertation is divided into four parts:The first part clarified the origin of the study, research status, meaning and purpose of this study, as well as the ideas and methods of the study.The second part studied the elective course setting of the Webb School. The setting characteristics of elective courses are analyzed, such as structural diversity, curriculum objectives focus on personality development of students, as well as the balance between the academic and student interests.The third part describes the implementation of the elective courses of Webb School. This part mainly focuses on the student’s course selection guide, adopting the form of walk-shift teaching organization, teacher-student relationship, classroom teaching atmosphere and credit management.The fourth part is the conclusion of the dissertation. Based on the settings and implementation of Webb School and learning from their successful experience, we must strive to achieve a diversified high school elective course structure, enrich the optional elective course, establish good elective guide. Using teaching and democratic classes, we can achieve the equality of teachers and students, improve credit management, and take a wide range of evaluation methods.
