Thematic teaching mode is a new type of language teaching mode with language teachingundertaken around a theme. The mode emphasizes the relevance between language teachingand the knowledge of other subjects. In this way, students can acquire abundant knowledgenetwork rather than isolated vocabulary. Thematic teaching mode has been applied in variousteaching field, especially in English language teaching. However, the teaching mode is still newto the field of teaching Chinese as second language. Therefore, the research in the field is alsoinsufficient. In the perspective of the author, thematic teaching mode conforms to the concept ofThai education and the learning characteristics of Thai students. What’s more, it makes it mucheasier for Chinese volunteer teachers to manage the Chinese language class. As the mode hasbeen applied in the actual teaching progress, teachers and scholars need to do more researcheson issues resulting from its application, which will contribute to the perfection of teachingdesign and the improvement of the career of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages.This article mainly researches the application of thematic teaching mode in comprehensiveChinese class of elementary level in Thailand middle school. Based on the author’s practice ofteaching Chinese language for ten months in Thailand, the author takes the thematic teaching of“Number”,“Fruit” and “Animal” in Banharmjamsaiwittaya School No.1as the cases study andanalyzes and assesses the application of thematic teaching mode and finally reveals theenlightenment gained from it.
