As an international language, English has been used by more and more people.Meanwhile, a large number of parents have paid great attention to the children’s Englishlearning. In order to better improve the English learning levels of children, it comes to TPRSteaching method. Blaine Ray is a high school Spanish teacher in California, who proposedTPRS teaching method during the1990s. The method combines Total Physical ResponseTeaching Method of James Asher and Second Input Hypothesis of Stephen Krashen, whichenables teachers to pay attention to the development of children; emphasizes the individualemotional experiences of children; achieves the integrative development of curriculum; makesthe implementation of non-directive teaching organization; makes teachers teach words,grammars, readings and writings smoothly.The main purpose of this experiment is to testify whether TPRS teaching method inprimary school can enhance the English learning levels of children. This research is mainly totestify1) whether TPRS teaching method could improve the English learning interests ofchildren;2) whether TPRS teaching method could improve the English levels of children;3)how to teach English under TPRS teaching method in public primary school.In order to know whether the application of TPRS teaching method in primary schoolcould improve the learning English levels of children, the author did the research. Thisexperiment was taken in Xiangxian Street Primary School in Linfen, Shanxi Province. Oneclass was chosen randomly as the experimental class, and then the author made this class asthe experimental group and the other three classes as the control group. The author made thecomparison between the experimental class and the Whole Grade in the experiment. Firstly,the author used the questionnaire to test the learning situations of children before theexperiment. The questionnaire contains four parts: learning attitudes, learning habits,classroom performances of children and teachers’ performances. The paper test includes fourparts which is selected by Linfen Education Bureau. After the experiment, the author compared the experimental class to the Whole Grade mainly from the three aspects ofobservation, questionnaire and the paper test.The results of this research showed that children in the experimental class become moreinterested in English learning and they behaved more actively than the children in controlgroup. Their English levels were improved a lot as well. This research proved that TPRSteaching method played a significant role in promoting the learning interests and Englishlevels of children as well as the integrated development of children. Therefore, TPRS teachingmethod properly suits to the primary English teaching.
