Explorations Of Keeping The Interest In English Learning In Primary Education

With the development of the society,more and more people are attaching the importance to the English learning.It is well known that interest is the most importance element in the process of English learning for the pupils of the elementary school.In the teaching experience the writer felt that the students' interests in learning English decreased gradually from low grade to high grade after Grade 3.Is it that the teacher can arouse children's temporary interest of English learning very easily while the teacher is also likely to frustrate their interest unintentionally? So it is more important to find some ways to make their interest continuous.In order to confirm the feeling and fred out the ways to keep the interest,the present researcher carried out a series of questionnaires and interviews about English learning interest from four different grades in the Attached Primary School of Teachers' College in Changle.Based on the data and analysis of the survey,it is true that there is existing phenomenon that the students' interests in learning English decrease gradually from low grade to high grade after Grade 3 in the investigated school.Facing this phenomenon,the writer puts forward some methods and strategies on how to make students' interest continuous in English learning with the guidance of the affect theory.There are two important strategies:One is improving the general condition of primary. English teaching.from the local education department.The other is boosting the teacher's general consciousness.It is mostly the teacher's job to keep the interest of the English learning,for the pupils are too young to control themselves.So the writer considers the factors of the teacher from the order of the class.First before the class,some ideas should be bear in mind by the teacher,such as letting students realize the importance of learning English and so on.Second,in the class, some strategies should be taken by the teacher,such as employing many kinds of teaching methods and means including the games or the role playing and so on, but the teacher should change games and activities frequently to maintain the students' novelty.Third,after the class,there are still some points which the teacher should carry out.For example,the teacher can enrich the extracurricular activities to consolidate the students' interest.
