On The Loneliness Of University Academic Research

The thesis inquire into the loneliness of university academic research fromseveral aspects: the implications, history, necessity, conflicts and challenges,inheritance and guardian. There are three implications for the loneliness of universityacademic research: firstly, it refers to the non-utilitarian academic research; secondly,it refers to scholars steeped in academic research; thirdly, it refers to scholars preferthe quiet and solitude. Considering loneliness taken as a feature of academic researchhas culture connection in terms of time, and in an effort to understand the lonelinessof university academic research deeply, the history of the loneliness of universityacademic research was studied and three most meaningful time nodes (the beginningperiod, the Middle Ages and modern times) of ancient and modern academic historyaround the world were selected to discuss the problem. The loneliness is necessary foruniversity academic research: it is related to the special nature of university academicresearch, related to the teaching of sophisticated higher learning, related to thegeneration of innovative ideas. But in modern China, the loneliness of universityacademic research is facing challenges of conflicts. Generalization of modernuniversity functions makes universities get to the center of the society from fringe, thefunctions serving the society and the academic research is in conflict; unhealthy socialatmosphere eroded university academic spirit; unreasonable university systemchallenges the loneliness of university academic research, including researchdistribution system, the management system of research funding, academic evaluationsystem. Inheriting and guarding the loneliness of university academic research shouldproceed from the conflicts and challenges the university facing. First, universitiesshould do certain things. Universities should uphold the philosophy that “academic islife” and balance the two functions: academic research and serving the society.Secondly, universities should stick to their philosophy. Universities should obtainsocial recognition for the philosophy university’s loneliness in academic research, andcultivate scholars’ academic spirit. Finally, establish a system for protecting theloneliness of university academic research. Build an academic-based research distribution system, improve the management system of research funding, andestablish an academic evaluation system Considering quality as the most important.
