Population migration and regional economic development gap are hotspot issuesin the area of population economics and regional economics. The previous studies paymore attention on the number of floating population, ignoring that the heterogeneityof migrate population have more influence on the regional economic development. With the deepening reform of household registration system and the age andeducation structure of population migration changes, the heterogeneity of migrationpopulation has become the important factors influencing regional economicdevelopment that can’t be ignored. In this paper, on the basis of previous scholarresearch conclusions, the author redefined the migration population and itsheterogeneity. With the data of the Sixth Population Census and past years’ statisticalyearbook data, we realize quantitative analysis. Based on the analysis of evolvementand character of Shandong population migration and regional economic developmentgap, the author constructed an empirical model to quantize the influence ofheterogeneity population migration on regional economic development gap. This thesis includes six parts. The first chapter is the introduction, containing background, significance, content, domestic and related international progresses. Based on reality of “expansion ofpopulation migration” and “expansion of regional economic development gap”, thispaper analyze heterogeneous population migration’s impact on regional economicdevelopment gap from the angle of heterogeneity, that contribute to improving theregional economic development gap by a series of policy so as to realize scientific andharmonious development. The second chapter elaborated the relationship between heterogeneouspopulation migration and regional economic development gap. It elaborates therelationship and mechanism of action by endogenous economic growth theory andnew economic geography theory. The third, fourth and fifth parts are empirical analysis. In part three, theevolvement and characters of Shandong population migration are analyzed from the perceptive of scale, heterogeneous human capital, heterogeneous age structure andheterogeneous direction, based on previous census data. The author get conclusions asfollows: The scale of Shandong population migration ranks front in the country;Heterogeneous human capital is becoming higher with a big increase in higher degreeeducation; Age structure is matured with an increase in the proportion of all agegroups more than35years old. On the contrary, the advantage of prime-working-ageis no longer; Population migration more unilaterally centralized to the city and so on.In part four, the regional economic development gap among17regional citiesand urban-rural development gap in Shandong province is quantitative analyzedaccording Theil index and Gini coefficient and ratio of income. It concludes asfollows: Since1990, regional economic development gap in Shandong provinceexperienced the first expand narrow and then expand and continue staying high, andappears shrinking trend in recent years; Gap between urban and rural areas haveshowed enlarged first and then decreased and then expand the wave patterns. In part five, the heterogeneous population migration’s influence on regionaleconomic development gap in Shandong province is analyzed according to thecoupling of population migration and regional economic development gap. From thecoupling analysis results, the change trajectory is keeping highly consistent witheconomical development gravity and population migration gravity, and the correlationcoefficient of GDP and population migration up to0.94.The last is the conclusion and suggestions. The main countermeasures were putforward as follows: Firstly, Setting up the scientific management conception andrealizing citizenization of population migration by deepening of the reform of thehousehold registration system and establishing the integration of the social securitysystem. Secondly, take actions to strengthen rural basic education and the level ofhuman capital of migration population. Finally, take actions to build urban-ruralintegrated labor market to realize the orderly flow of the population.
