It began a new curriculum reform of the basic education in the21st century in Namibia.The National Curriculum for Basic Education has been developed since2008and implemented in2010.This new curriculum policy is a very important document guiding the reform of the basic education curriculum.The new basic education curriculum reform firmly grasp the characteristics and the needs of the times,it includes the ideas of the curriculum reform of the basic education,the structure of the curriculum,the content,the assessment methods,the formulation and implementation of the curriculum policy.In the first decade of the21st century, the new curriculum reform of basic education in Namibia has achieved a major breakthrough.The reform trend in Namibia is consistent with the international.They continuously adjust the curriculum structure,reduce some useless courses,abandon knowledges which are not meet the times need,reduce the heavy burden of students,and ai the same times they developed several new subjects to meet the developing needs of students as well as society,focus on the role of education in career-oriented to make fully prepared for students to ge t a job.In addition to,Namibia pay more attention to develop special education and inclusive education.However in practice,the new curriculum reform of Namibia still exist lots of problems,we will learn something from it.This article contains four main parts: The first part describes the background of the basic education curriculum reform in Namibia. The Republic of Namibia gained independence in March1990,there are two basic education curriculum reforms in Namibia up to now,the curriculum reform in the1990s and the new one in21st century. The second part describes the main content of the basic education curriculum reform.The new reform includes the ideas of the curriculum,the structure of the curriculum,the content,the assessment methods,the formulation and implementation of the curriculum policy.The highest purpose of the course is to build a knowledge-based society and develop knowledge-based economy,so they reset the target of the basic education curriculum,adopted a new idea of learning.Adjusted the structure, brought the early-childhood education into the formal basic education,changed the subject structure,developed more elective subjects, therefore the flexibility of curriculum increased.Developed some new teaching methods and contend, established the course on the point of students,pay more attention to the traditional culture,reform the subjects of teaching language.At the same time, they reformed the assessment model of basic education.Pay more attention to democracy of policy formulation and implementation. The third part describes the trend of basic education curriculum reform.Further adjust the structure of curriculum, reduce courses in junior high school, increase some new disciplines,strengthen the career guidance of curriculum and develop the inclusive education.The fourth part describes the problems in Namibia and some inspirations to our country.Though Namibia have made some new breakthrough in curriculum reform,it still exist some problems, as the regional economic and social development have different levels,there is a big gap between different social classes,it is a severe challenge to the educational equality,There are some serious problems troubled Namibia with the implementation of new basic education,such as the allocation of teaching infrastructure is not balanced, the teacher specialization stay in a low level, AIDS issues and so on. We can get some enlightenment from the basic education curriculum reform of Namibia,at present we should make efforts to solve the problem of education fairness,take the native culture to curriculum,develop students multicultural awareness, strengthen the learning of foreign language,we should explore diversified mode of teaching actively,make full use of the functions of education.
