According to the education curriculum reform outline, teachers should interactwith students actively in the teaching process to reach a mutual development andteachers should also pay attention to cultivate students’ consciousness ofindependence and autonomy, guide students to question, investigate, explore, learn inpractice, and promote students to study actively and individually under the guidanceof teachers. Map is an important carrier of the geographic information, which is notonly the characteristics of geography, but also the emphasis and difficulty ingeography learning. Map is like a skeleton, which forms a "bone" and "meat"relationship with geography. It allows students to remember, associate, and gainknowledge of geography easily only with the attachment of geographical knowledgeto the map. Almost all of the geography teaching content can only be expressedcomplete with the aid of a map, which is the main way to cultivate students’innovative consciousness and practical ability in the geography education.Map explanation learning is a kind of learning with the help of map as thebreakthrough point to lead students transform from passive to active learning. It is amap teaching mode to change the teachers’ role from leading role to guide roles. Theauthor, with the help of many years practice of classroom teaching, under theguidance of this new teaching model, try to find a way of active learning,enthusiastically study so as to improve the students’ ability of learning with pleasureand interest.The first part is the introduction part, which mainly introduces the researchbackground and research significance of this article. By studying a large number ofliteratures reading at home and abroad, it casts some light on the current situation ofmiddle school students’ learning ability and literacy of map. The second part mainlyintroduces the significance of map explanation learning in middle school geographyteaching and the usage principles. From the middle school geography education It hasadopted a space education view to explore the map explanation learning mode’s research meaning with the combination of connotation and analysis of the relevantchanges on the middle school geography curriculum standard teaching. The third partdiscusses the theory and practice of map explanation learning in middle schoolgeography teaching and analyzed the signification of map explanation teaching to thecultivation of students’ geographical thinking quality. The fourth part tries to explainthe learning experiment research in middle school geography teaching and it focuseson problems and measures found through the experimental studies of map explanationlearning. The fifth part is the results and reflection process, which has been reached aclear conclusion about the role of map explanation learning in helping the reform ofclassroom teaching, as well as helping the combination of teaching theory andteaching practice.
