In recent years, as an effective supplement of regular higher education, independent colleges enroll more and more students.At the same time, the number of poor students has continued to increase. It is known to all that correctly handling subsidization for impoverished-students in independent college is a very important measure for constructing a harmonious socialist society and realizing Chinese dream. Meanwhile, it is also a people-benefit project which can let poor students go to college. Although our country has formulated a series of subsidies policies, while because of the special nature of the poor students in independent college, it is still of practical significance to make a research on subsidization for poor students in independent colleges and find out the ways to solve the existing problems.This paper makes an overview on the subsidization system for poor students in independent college by using human capacity theory and education equity theory. Furthermore, through conducting questionnaires, this paper summarizes the current status of subsidization work for poor students in S College and systemizes the revealed problems so as to come up with several proposals on improving the work of subsidization for poor students in independent colleges at multiple levels.This paper consists four parts as follows:Introduction is the first part of this paper. It briefly explains the reasons of choosing this topic and the research significance.In addition, it makes a review on related literatures both in home and overseas, and it still expounds the main contents and research methods of this paper.The second part is the summary of the current situation about the subsidization for poor students in independent colleges. This part is divided into three sections. In the first section, the author puts forward the theoretical basis, including human capital theory, education equity theory and education cost sharing theory. The second section outlines the brief history of the subsidization system for poor students the independent colleges and divides it into three stages:stage with no subsidization(1999-2003), stage funded by colleges (2003-2007) and stage with multiple funding which is sponsored by the country and other sources (2007-present). The third section states the practical significance of subsidizing poor students in independent colleges based on the special nature of poor students in independent colleges.The third part is the survey and research about the subsidization work in S College. First of all, it analyzes the current situation and the overall effect of subsidization work in S College by using questionnaires. Secondly, based on the above analysis, this paper sums up the main problems which exist in the work of subsidization for poor students. These main problems can be listed as follows:just few students have received national aid; there are omissions in the process of qualifying poor students; the operation process of funding is not standard; school provides limited positions for poor students; the loans in the students birth place get little effect; poor students lack mental health education and the percentage of scholarship winners is too small.The fourth part is the suggestions for perfecting the subsidization system for poor students in independent colleges. Based on the above mentioned problems, this part puts forward several important proposals from the perspective of government, society, colleges, students and the parents of the students respectively. Among them, the government should increase the amount of aid, loans and perfect security system of student loans; the society should encourage commercial banks to participate in student loans and guide social organizations and individuals to take part in the collection of subsidy for poor students through enhancing publicity; independent colleges should strengthen the work of financing management, standardized operation, increase the positions for poor students, innovate the mode of education, pay more attention to poor students’ psychological health and honesty education, raise the proportion of scholarship winners, cultivate applied talents who meet the market demand; poor students should have a correct understanding about poverty with a thankful heart, and improve their comprehensive abilities to make contribution to the society; parents should change traditional ideas and set a good example for their children.
