Study On The Media Education Of Shanghai Outstanding Wushu Athletes

This research combines the theory of media literacy as well as the questionnaireresults about media education on40excellent wushu athletes from Shanghai who hadwon the first eight of single matches and first six of group matches in the nationalcompetitions.The methods of literature material、questionnaire investigation、content analysis、mathematical statistics and interview are used to systematicallyanalyze media education state of the outstanding athletes. The results are as follows:Problems on outstanding wushu athletes of their media literacy:Majority,there are four reasons among the outstanding martial arts athletes fromShanghai of their media literacy.First of all,their lack active and thorough contact withthe media.For instance:they seldom contact with the print media and get access to thecontent of the medium such as cultural knowledge and so on,further more,they knowlittle about the newly arising media--microblog.Secondly,their cognition of themedium is not comprehensive,so they can’t distinguish the media and the symbol,their evaluation of the media is not unified and the polarization is serious.Thirdly,theirutility of the media are very simple and single,usually in a passive way.They seldominteract with the print media、TV/radio and a few people have never used themedia.Very few athletes will cooperate with the media.Lastly,the athletes lack theenthusiasm for initiative study.The main reason which cause the media education problems of the outstandingathletes:There are four main reasons.firstly,the fact of concentrate on training whileignore literacy education under our current national sports system lead to a lack ofsponsorship money.Secondly,schools pay little attention to the education of medialiteracy.Thirdly,affected by various factors, the athletes themselves lack of learningmotivation.Fourthly,some media don’t abide by the professional ethics, which leads tothe athletes’ form of fear and mistrust of the media,so as to avoid contacting with themedia and medium or news related knowledge and skills.Strategies to improve the outstanding athletes’ media education:First of all,take advantage of school and society education to build the foundation ofthe athletes’s media cognitive ability.Second,to equip with the necessary securityteam, to improve athlete’s ability to use media,such as set up a press officer toenhance consciousness of public relations, master interview skills and be good atusing media tools such as microblog, etc.Third, actively organize team members toparticipate in professional business events, accumulation the experience of dealingwith the media.Gradually improve the athletes’ media literacy.Last,The mass mediashall abide by professional ethics and strengthen their self-discipline. News laws andregulations of the industry should be made to strengthen the government supervisionand audience supervision,then the athletes will trust the media and their medialiteracy will be improved through gradually cognition and use of the media.
