Since the20th century, small-sized class teaching (SCT) became more and more popular. Sodoes China. Especially, since the21st century, with the decrease of school-aged children in primaryand middle schools year by year, a great number of schools will face the changes for SCT. IfEnglish teachers continue to use the traditional teaching ideas and don’t change any teachingmodes,, SCT will not be so effective, which leads to the waste of education resources.Starting from the academic year of2011, our school first applied SCT. This paper attempts toexplore teaching effectiveness of that mode. Through searching a large number of information, Ifound out some similar materials on the certain research, but mostly limited in elementary schoolsand discussion for junior school students are rare. The purpose of this paper is to inspect the resultof SCT, and hope to provide some advice for the English teachers in middle schools.In this paper, I first analyzed the teaching methods for English basic skills in SCT, whichgreatly improved the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Secondly, Ifurther discussed the effective management measures, including how to use the emotional teaching,life teaching and classroom teaching tact reasonably. I also discussed about the measures for tact,and try to find how to stimulate students’ English learning motivation by applying the method ofclassroom performance; ways of letting students learn to cooperate and give the advice on how togive students personalized homework. Finally, within one and a half years’ study betweenexperiment and contrast es, it showed the validity and reliability of the SCT model.The result showed the students from experimental class obviously improved their Englishstudy interests and their grades made great progress compared with before. We can say that SCThas so many incomparable advantages and on the other hand, with the help of SCT, the teachingquality is much improved.
