With the aging population and urbanization, the pension issue of China’s ruralelderly people living alone gets worsening. It has become a major social problemsubjected to the attention of government departments, academics and people from allsectors of the community. From the perspective of social work profession, the articleanalyzes the possibility and necessity of the construction of a mutual support network ofthe elderly people living alone in rural areas, through interviews and research on theliving conditions of the elderly living alone in Wuhan City Q village. Based on the theoryof Social Support Network and Social Reconstruction, the construction of the mutualsupport network for rural elderly people living alone is been intervened in, using thegroup work of social work practice. Through the establishment of mutual support groupof rural elderly people living alone, it’s been hoped to improve the self-confidence andthe ability to adapt to the society of elderly people living alone, to enhance the emotionalsupport for them, and to establish and strengthen the willingness to mutual support, inorder to set a good foundation for the establishment of a mutual support network forelderly people living alone in rural areas.The main purpose of the group activities is to provide more opportunities for theelderly to interact and communicate with each other, so as to enrich the social supportnetworks of the rural elderly people living alone. In group activities, the social workeralways uphold the values of "people-oriented" and "To help people to help themselves"of social work to help elderly people living alone have the courage to face and resolvethe plight of life, and help them to regain self-confidence and re-adapt to society.Through detailed records, assessment and reflection of every section of group activities,the social worker sums up the areas of its successful and need to be improved. Finally, Iassess the effect of the group activities, and make a reflection of the social worker’s intervention in the construction of mutual support network of rural elderly people livingalone.Since the study of mutual support network for elderly people living alone in ruralareas is still relatively short in our country, it’s been hoped that this paper provides a newperspective for the rural old-age security problems, and also provides a new way for theconstruction of a harmonious society and a new socialist countryside through payingattention to and studying in the construction of mutual support network of from the fieldof social work.
