The views of life itself are of unique abstraction and complexity. The essence of education should point to individual life, while dominated by instrumental rationality, the life-scene of education is weakened, and the significance of human existence is misinterpreted. The lack of life consciousness and life education in school education leads the worrying situation of students’the views of life. Research on the views of life receives little attention in the former study on textbook. In this paper, three sets of Chinese textbooks of junior high school published by the People’s Education Press respectively in1981-1983,1992-1995, and2010-2011were adopted for the study. Lessons, unit activities and exercises, text illustrations and characters that involve the views of life were collected, and quantity variance analysis was made to present the evolution of the views of life in textbooks, and reveal the Problems and obstacles in the education of the views of life in elementary and secondary school.Schools of life philosophy make theoretical definition to life and time, space, death, and set a Trinity system of the views of life about the essence, existence, realm of life, and with meaning of life as the main line. The framework of this study consists of three parts: cherish life, revere life and enhance life, and data analysis finds the evolution of the views of life in textbooks:transformations occur in content selection, consciousness direction, expression method and presentation form, and turn from impulse of life to the ration of life, from the collective to the individual, from grand narrating to individual narrating, from implication to explication respectively. The social change brings transaction in values, also the value orientation in education reform, and profoundly affects the views of life involved in textbooks.The evolution of the views of life in textbooks is dynamic and complex. Death dimension of the views of life should be concerned in further study, while rethink to the implement process can help to broaden the research vision and propel the study on the views of life.
