Resistance Behavior Of Gay’s Wife Group

In recent years, the issue of homosexuality accepts more and more attention byacademics, however, the one hidden behind the social problems of gays is the problemof their wives, has almost no attention in sociology research. We hope that through thisresearch, the problem of gay’s wife can cause more attention by academic, whichpromotes the improvement of relevant laws and regulations, as well as provokes publicthinking of gay’s wife in China.This research has used virtual anthropological method, combined with deepinterviews and field research, based on more than100,000words daily communicationand text content analysis of interviews in one network community of gay’s wife,between September2012and June2013, which will enrich research practicalexperience of virtual fieldwork methods.This paper has used gender culture as the analytical framework, to analyze thepressure of three aspects that the gay’s wife group has born: gender system pressure,gender capital pressure and public opinion pressure, where gender system pressureincludes reproductive system pressure and legal system pressure, gender issues capitalpressures includes the house, property and remarriage issues, and public opinionpressure includes factors of family responsibility and face. Accordingly, the authoranalyzes the three different pressure gay’s wife group faced: their resistance actionagainst reproductive system pressure includes mild resistance and intense resistance;resistance against the legal system pressure is mainly reflected in the searching forevidence, fighting for custody and breaking away military marriage; resistance againstgender capital pressure is mainly reflected in divorce without any property and planningwith long-term perspective; resistance against the public opinion pressure is mainlyreflected in proving themselves, hiding their identity, utilizing consensus and attackinggays through articles. On resisting gender culture pressure, resistance action of gay’swife was also marked by gender and cultural imprint.The analysis of resistance behavior of gay’s wife against the gender culturepressure enriched theory connotations of gender culture. We also found that, the idea ofgay’s wife were typically influenced by gender culture; the extent of gay’s wife resistedagainst gender culture pressure, depends on the individual of gay’s wife internalizing the concept of gender culture and the degree they received stress intensity fromindividual, family, social and other aspects; the resistance behavior of gay’s wife is theresult of combing with personal emotional, moral and rational thinking and other factors;to solve the problem of gay’s wife not only need improvement of their individual ideasfor gender culture, but also progress of gender culture, and society, government,legislative bodies, the mass media and other parties to work together to promote theperfection of relevant laws and advanced construction of gender culture.
