During the current rapid development of science and technology and economy, Mathematical Statistics and Probability play an important role on reasoning and decision for people. The Chinese Ministry of Education has issued "The Standard of the Full-time Compulsory Education on Mathematics Curriculum" in July2001(hereinafter called the Standard).In the Standard, Mathematical Statistics and Probability, as an important content, are included into the compulsory education stage of mathematics curriculum of each period of our country. Before the Standard, Mathematics textbooks in PEP edition monopolized the market of the teaching materials of the primary and middle school. Since the Standard was put into effect, many mathematics textbooks in different editions have broken this normal procedure. This is not only good for teachers from different regions to choose suitable teaching materials, but also it provides a good chance for the teachers on teaching and research all around the regions.Nowadays, the two sets of junior middle school mathematics textbooks, PEP and BNUP are widely used in our country. This essay, using the above two sets of textbooks as research objects, is directed by the New Curriculum Standard. And it’s in the purpose of working on the comparative study about the course design of Mathematical Statistics and Probability, including the basic idea of the course, the content of the course, the layout system of the course, sample exercises, exercises, review questions and subjects study. By researching this subject, I meant to offer some valuable references for the teachers, some useful suggestions on how to use the textbooks more scientifically and reasonably, as well as make the textbooks play a better role in teaching.By comparison and study, we can see that Mathematical Statistics and Probability in PEP edition is more centralized than the version in BNUP. Textbooks in PEP edition take the form of sub-total model; however, Beijing Normal University takes total-sub-total mode. Textbooks in PEP edition put more emphasis up on the integration of modern information technology, while, Beijing Normal University textbooks do pay more attention in school and cultivate students’ inquiry.By the research, we can find that the two versions of textbooks all reflect the advanced concepts of the curriculum reform. On the basis of the Standard, they have their own advantages. When teachers use the two kinds of textbook versions, we need to comprehend the compiling ideas. In this way, we are able to utilize the textbook flexibly and make full use of it.
