| Faced the recession, The National Commission on Excellence in Education was released a educational report called "A Nation at Risk:the Imperative for Educational Reform" in1983. It was became the beginning of the national education reform bandwagon since the1980’s. The Professional Development School was appeared in this background, followed the historical tradition of colleges and public schools cooperation in the United States. PDS was created a new mode of teacher education, the purpose was to improve the level of pre-service teacher training, promote in-service teacher professional development, improve the primary and middle School students’ academic performance, promote the restructure and reform of primary and secondary schools and university. PDS put forward a series of new ideas in education reform and was attracted much attention of the American education. This new mode has became a trend of American teacher education reform.This article is divided into five parts. In the first part, It mainly introduces the research origin, the domestic and the United States main research results of PDS, and defines three important concepts:the specialization of teachers, the professional development school and cooperation.The second part, first of all, It is from four aspects that is economic, culture, science and technology, population to describe the background of PDS. Then it combines the history of the American university in collaboration with public schools. Finally it introduces the detail of the Standards for The Professional Development School and PDS multinational cooperation case which is the symbol of PDS go towards international.The third part is put the indiana state university professional development school as a case to analyse the operation and effectiveness of the PDS. In the fourth part, it is analyse the challenge from system, funding, policy during the PDS development. Then it combines the case of Auburn university professional development school to describe how to manage the challenge. The fifth part it presents the status of the PDS model in china——Teacher Development School and analyses the existing prominent problems of local PDS. At last it bases on the experience of the PDS development in the United States, provide a new way for our teacher education reform and development. |
