| Objective:The recruitment scale for graduate student has been expanded rapidly with the development of China’s higher education. The problem of psychological health for graduate students has also become gradually apparent because of the increased pressure from the parents and the decreased social recognition. Medical graduates have unique education background. They have certain knowledge about psychological health but they are also under pressure from study, work and marriage. Therefore, their psychological health is more important because it not only affects their own but also impacts on their patients.Methods:This research has investigated249graduate students from hospital with the Students’ Circumstance Questionnaire and Symptom Check List (SCL-90).Results:The analysis results indicate that about13.2%of graduate students have certain psychological health problems. The over all psychological health of graduate students is better than that of normal Chinese adults. The top three symptoms are obsession, depression and hostility.Through comparison by control group, the psychological status of schoolgirls is better than schoolboys. Schoolboys are more likely than schoolgirls to emerge obsessive-compulsive symptoms, hostility, and bigotry. At the aspect of horror emotion, there is significant difference between above28years old graduate students and below28years old graduate students. Either in respect of the overall score or in respect of obsessive-compulsive symptoms, there exists obviously statistical difference between the graduate students who are only child in their family and those who are non only child. As for the aspect of marriage status, the married graduate students are easier than single graduate students to tend to be obsession, interpersonal sensitivity, phobia and mental diseases. In another hand, the graduate students who need family support are big different from those who don’t need family support in terms of interpersonal sensitivity.Although the total score shows about the same in terms of academic grades, the difference is still found in some sub-factors. Psychological health of freshmen is worse than that of sophomore and junior. Freshmen show more obsession, sensitivity and phobia. But when they are administrated into higher academic grades, the psychological health seems to be improved.Comparison is also made according to the academic performance. The analysis results show that the difference is predominant in the following three aspects, depression, compulsion and anxiety. Graduate students matriculated in the desired major have better psychological health. Those students who have published articles show less compulsion, sensitivity, depression, hatred, phobia, anxiety. The students who have land job opportunities also show less compulsion, depression, anxiety and hatred.There is no significant difference in terms of education level, academic major and family background.Conclusions:The psychological health of the investigated students in the cancer hospital was better than that of adult and youth nationwide. There are significant differences in terms of gender,age, only one child, marriage, family support, major, grade, physical exercise, score, publication and job. Cox regression analysis showed that psychological health was correlated with gender and major desirability, subject to less psychological problems among school girls and those with satisfied major.Suggestions:According to the above results, we propose the following suggestions. We should assess the psychological status of the freshmen, establish psychological health profile and pay more attention to the students with potential psychological problems. Teamwork, interest group and communication are encouraged. We should improve the psychological inquiry skills in order to detect potential problem. Overall, we will help students establish reasonable expectation and strengthen the self-management of students. |
