On To Siqi Ya · Sassen Focused Global City Theory

With the increasing development of the global economy, the subject of Global City became a famous topic in latest academic research. On this environment, I selected one of the Western researchers’views to be the central idea of this essay, combining with some of other researchers’views on global city.Theory of global city from Saskia Sassen is the focus point of this essay. The essay includes two large parts:Introduction and Main part.The opening part is an introduction, analyzing the study in domestic and broad on global city and Saskia Sassen, then we can find the meaning of why this essay was wrote.Next large part is the main part. This part includes for four chapters. First one elaborates the historical evolution of theory of global city. Important view is the later part, evolution of the theory of Saskia Sassen, following from the theory of Peter Hall and John Friedmann. The previous part is the foundation of the later part. Second one we can learn the connotation of the theory of global city. This chapter has two parts:"what’s the Global City?" and "what are the features of Global City?" We can find several similar answer of the first question in Urban Encyclopedia. The features involve angles of economic, political, cultural and building. Besides, I supplied one small part in the end of this chapter, it’s the types of global city, and there are seven kinds of global city. In the third chapter, I picked one economic angle of the theory of Saskia Sassen, this chapter also includes two parts:economic order and social order of global city. The previous part is about economic order, elaborating the importance of global city in global economy, and the Services of global city bring advantages to global economy. Consequently, we discuss the social order of global city. Referring to the theory of Saskia Sassen, I choose the three global cities:New York, London and Tokyo. Then elaborate the employment problem and income of the population in global city. The final part is Epilogue. In this part, I chose two intending global cities in our country:Beijing and Shanghai. According several simple elaboration, to proof that they almost had been the global city.This is the writing ideas of this essay. The theory of Saskia Sassen is the most important view, combing with the views of other scholars, to elaborate the global city clearer.
