| In the mid-1990s, Paul Stotts, a famous American scholar and a profession trainer, put forward the definition of AQ----Adversity Quotient, which serves as a measurement of one’s refection on adversities, i.e. the ability to confront adverse circumstances and overcome difficulties. In recent years, a large number of teenagers, junior middle school students in particular, have problems with mental adaptation. Some students hurt themselves or others because of trivial things. Some get anxious or tired of learning for they think they have got over heavy study burden. Some indulge themselves in online games. These facts indicate that junior middle school students have problems with adversity quotient. Therefore, it is of great urgency to cultivate their AQ.This paper makes a sampling investigation of junior middle school students’ AQ in Najing and Suzhou, analyzes the main problems and makes an attempt to find effective strategies, in the hope of improving students’ ability to confront frustrations and overcome adversities. Researches in this field will helps to strengthen students’ mental quality, promote the harmonious development of mind and body, as well as improve their mental level.This paper is comprised of four parts. Bases on former research, the first part is devoted to the research background, research aims and meaning of Adversity quotient cultivation among junior middle school students. The second chapter elaborates on the definition, four indices as well as the connotation of adversity quotient. The third part makes a sampling investigation of junior middle school students in Najing and Suzhou, gives an analysis of adversity quotient of current junior middle school students, and points out that though the overall AQ among junior middle school students is good, there are some problems which cannot be ignored. In addition, this part expounds the necessity of AQ cultivation. The fourth part mainly concentrates on the methods of AQ cultivation. First, students themselves should be active and be more adaptive. Second, school education plays an important role and home education a decisive role. What’s more, social environment serves as a guiding role. This paper attempts to seek effective strategies from the above four aspects. |
