With China’s increasing communication with the outside world, it has required a large number of young people with a good knowledge of English language. So it is significant to develop students’oral competence, which can not only satisfies the rapid development of the society but also can lay a solid foundation for students’ life-long development. In terms of the current situation of senior middle school students’oral English, that is, their oral English is poor and their study time is limited. The author is in search of an effective way to improve students’oral capacity in daily teaching and finally finds that English corner can stimulate students’interest in learning English so as to improve their oral competence, thus achieving the target of communication by using English.The thesis can be divided into five parts. Chapter1begins with the current situation of the senior middle school students’ oral competence. As their oral English is not good, so improving their speaking ability is quite urgent according to the development of the modern society and the requirements of the syllabus and curriculum for senior middle school students. Thus the purpose of the research is put forward in this section. The second part presents the theoretical background which is related to English corner, such as Input Hypothesis, Output Hypothesis, the Interaction Hypothesis and Behaviorist Learning theory and so on all can lay a solid foundation for proving English corner is an effctive way to improve senior middle school students’ oral skills in the theory. Besides, it also offers some relative studies at home and abroad. The third chapter is about how English corner is carried out in Wuhai No.10middle school; the significance of English corner in Wuhai No.10middle school as well as the participants and organizers of English corner and activities in English corner are included in the section. In the fourth part, questionnaires, interviews, and experiments are used to check whether English corner is an effective way to improve students’ oral competence. The last section discusses the conclusion which is drawn from the thesis by analyzing the questionnaires, interviews and experiments. So from the above the author concludes that English corner is an effective way to improve students’ oral English. At the same time, the limitations have also been found in carrying out English corner project, thus putting forward some measures on how to make English corner in Wuhai No.10middle school much better.
