Chinese Learning Motivations And Attitudes Of Chinese Major In Thai Public High School

The establishment of Chinese major in Thai Public High School is a significantsymbol of prosperous Chinese education in Thailand. But we hardly know about thiskind of class which has more than8study hours in Chinese course per week. Thisthesis discusses a study on Chinese Learning Motivations and Attitudes, whichchooses the high school students from Bangkok in Thailand as the research object. Wehope to be able to provide reference data and advice for the development of Chinesemajor in Thai Public High School.In order to know the characteristics of learning motivations and attitudes ofChinese major in Thai Public High School, we assigned questionnaires to128Thaistudents. And then we analyzed the different in gender, family background, schoolbackground and the relationship between test score and motivation/attitude types.Through statistical analysis, several conclusions are summarized as follows:1. The main motivation type is social motivation. The Chinese position in theworld has a greatest impact on Chinese learning motivation. But the learning attitudeof Thai students is not good, mainly reflected in low conation and mid-high levellearning anxiety.2. Because of the influence from gender, family background and schoolbackground, students’ learning motivation types and intension, learning attitude aredifference.3. Chinese test scores of Thai students have correlation with social motivationand instrumental motivation. The conation and learning anxiety of learning attitudewere also correlated.According to the research of students’ learning preference in our questionnaires,we proposed some specific teaching strategies which could stimulate their learningmotivation, or improve their learning attitude.
