Study On Japan’s Aid To The Pacific Island Countries

Japan is one of the world’s leading foreign aid powers, Japan’s foreign aid has received the widespread attention of the world. Yet compare with the Japanese assistance to Asia, Africa and the Middle East studies, the study on the Japanese assistance to Pacific island countries is far few. After the end of the cold war, especially into the21st century, the Pacific island region strategic value is attracted by the world attention.From the late1960s, Japan began to aid the Pacific island region. Japan as one of the major donors of The Pacific island countries, on the development and stability of the Pacific island countries is of great significance.This article consists of four parts. The first part is the introduction, first explains the concept of foreign aid, the second is that Japanese aid the background and meaning of the Pacific island countries, again is the research status at home and abroad and the research methods and innovation. In the second part, at first, it reviews the history of Japan’s foreign aid, followed by the introduction of function on Japan’s foreign aid, the last is the analysis of the reason of Japan’s foreign aid. The third part first introduces the general characteristics of the Japanese aid to Pacific island countries, and take a case on Japan’s assistance to Papua New Guinea to analyze the present situation of aid and assistance characteristic. The fourth part mainly is the benefit of the aid and evaluation.. Finally in the conclusion part briefly summarizes the Japanese in the Pacific island countries aid to China for assistance in the area of enlightenment.To sum up, this article will help us system to understand the development of relations between Japan and the Pacific island countries, deepen understanding about the characteristics and the actual effect on Japan’s foreign aid, helps us to better China to carry out the foreign assistance act.
