"Public benefit activities" is a help and support for the people who are old weak, ill or disabled and needs help in our society by individuals or organizations. Public benefit activities have double significance both in individual behavior and social behavior. The post-graduate students participate in the public benefit activities plays a positive role in improving their comprehensive quality; enhancing personal social responsibility and promoting social stability and harmony. This study use quantitative research methods, has many questionnaires and few open-ended interviews analysis and explain the participate situation of public benefit activities for354post-graduate students from three universities in Changsha, Hunan Province in cognize, attitude, action, feel and evaluate five dimensionality.Based on the empirical investigation, the students come to a conclusion as follows:1. The momentum of students participate situation is sound:individual cognize, most students have wide public concern on public benefit activities; For individual attitude, they are standing on objective and clear stance in public benefit activities development situation; For action, they have explicit objective in the public benefit activities, and have initiative and positivity; For individual participate feel, they achieve self-worth by participate in public benefit activities. At last, their total evaluation to the public benefit activities is very good and ensures the development of the activities.2. But there are also many problems in the participation:the shortage of deep understanding for public benefit activities; the knowledge and action are not uniform; the participate channel is narrow, the information source is not unimpeded; the participation and organization are short for systematicness, normalization, atmosphere and cultural connotation; short for participate time and high frequency.Based on the applicable theory on pedagogy, sociology and psychology, this article comprehensively analysis the root cause of the problem by the study from four aspects including personal, family, society and government, and make some suggestions from three levels to promote post-graduate students taking part in the public benefit activities: strengthen public education, promote the internalization of social responsibility consciousness; emphasize the development of system and organization, for the postgraduate to participate in public welfare activities;expand the social space of public welfare activities for the utilization and development of social resources.
