Thailand achieved constitutional monarchy in1932. Thailand became the democratization after the end of the absolute monarchy. But the development of democracy in Thailand has unique characteristics. Military intervention in politics, Military coup and turmoil are very common in Thailand. As a representatives of the conservative forces, Royal family of Thailand enhance and consolidate the prestige through cooperation with the military junta. The royal family and democracy is a contradiction. The Thai royal family is a witness to and participant of the development of democracy in Thailand. The80-year history of the development of democracy in Thailand, Thailand’s democracy and Thai royal family are inseparable and influence each other.Since the introduction of the constitutional monarchy in Thailand, the relationship between royal family and the development of democracy have become complex. Thailand1932revolution ended absolute monarchy. The establishment of a constitutional monarchy has laid a good foundation for the democratic process in Thailand. In80years, the occurrence and development of democracy, Thailand went through military coup, military rule, democratic government rule and then military coup. And The Royal family play the important role of the national peace, stability in the political life and restoring social democratic political order of the country.Thai royal family and the monarchy does have the rationality and necessity of its existence. If there is a political unrest in Thailand, the King will come to mediate. It is hard to imagine what the results will be if without King’mediation. On the other hand the Thai royal family has always been a conservative force on behalf of. The attitude of the royal family in the National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship and People’s Alliance for Democracy conflict also fully illustrates this point. How to evaluate the status, role and influence of the royal family in Thailand’s democratic process, promote or hinder the democratic process in Thailand. This thesis is gonna analyze and answer this question.
