Research On The Political Participation Of Thai Youth In Contemporary Thai Politics (1990-2015)

Given the political instability of the region and frequent coups of Asian countries,the issue of Thailand's political participation is one of the main focus points of this study.In recent years the proportion of young people in Thailand has increased rapidly,together with a growing political education.Under such circumstances,more Thai youth has began to show interest in politics.Considering that the general threshold of Thai political participation is low,the political participation of Thai youth has gradually played an important role.At the same time,globalization and the widespread popularity of social media has given Thai youth more channels to understand political information,make them more responsible and change the traditional attitudes towards political participation of ordinary people.The youth are seen as very important in order to improve and change Thailand's troubled politics.The youth are thus revitalizing Thailand's political development.However,many problems have arisen in this process which is worth reflecting on and studying.This thesis starts by examining the theory of political participation and then it looks at its development.First of all,it analyzes the main characteristics of Thailand's political participation,than it goes through the study of political participation of traditional Thai people and emerging youth.A comparison of the two groups will be carried by looking at their differences,including the political roles,the types of political participation,and the influence of the political participation on Thailand's political culture.Based on the development of Thailand's youth political participation,taking Thailand's general election of 1990-2015 and domestic political crisis as case studies,including the worldwide attention to the political confrontation between the yellow shirts and red shirts,it sums up the characteristics of political participation of the two groups,such as direct participation model and indirect participation model,focusing on the causes and problems of contemporary Thai youth political participation.According to the results of the literature research and questionnaire,the author then summarizes the research on the political participation of the young people in Thailand and adds recommendations.
