In the1960s, the political life of China was increasingly influenced by theleft-leaning thoughts. This trend, in the next years, affected all aspects of China. Atthe same time, people was going through the Great Chinese Famine. In the SocialistCamp, differences between the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) and theCommunist Party of China (CPC) became more and more obvious and irreconcilable, deteriorating the relations between the Soviet Union and China. And the SocialistCamp was, thus, further divided. In the Capitalist Camp, many western countries, such as The United States and the U.K., were still preceding with its “hostile anddeterrent” policy to China, with different attitudes. The United States was the initiatorof all those “hostile and deterrent” policies, some other countries like the U.K., out ofpolitical and economic needs, had to submit to the U.S. Policy. Yet, French people, under the leadership of General Charles De Gaulle, a strong nationalist, are friendly toChinese. In such an environment, the first atomic bomb exploded on October16,1964in thewestern part of China. The explosion caught the attention of the whole world, especially that of the four countries (the U.S.; Soviet Union, the U.K. and France)which had possessed nuclear weapons. We will see the reactions of the government, media and common people of the above four countries to the explosion. And, withanalysis and synthesis, we will draw several conclusions.
