Xu Beihong School Realism Successor

Ai Zhongxin(1915-2003) is the famous painter,art educator and art critic in China. He is one of the pioneers of Chinese oil painting in the20th century, also the important inheritor of Xu Beihong realism school. This paper takes Ai Zhongxin as the research object, tries to carry on the omni-directional investigation of his life career, with the theme and style of the paintings as the focus of the analysis, to demonstrate the realism painting has strong vitality in contemporary painting circle. In order to reveals the historical value and practical significance of Ai Zhongxin’s oil painting, this paper mainly from the painting ontology,based on historical data analysis,on the basis of the styles and iconology,to strive to get predecessors.This thesis is based on the life of Ai Zhongxin over a century and mainly focuses on his typical works. It is divided into five parts:The first chapter introduces the purpose and significance of the topic, current research status of Ai Zhongxin and literature review. The second chapter clues on the lifetime of Ai Zhongxin and is piloted by his three creation periods in which the retrospect and analysis of his art history is clarified and the different creative styles of different periods are also presented. Chapter three profoundly investigate the art styles of Ai Zhongxin and it can be deduced that his art style is formed because of the following aspects: tracing the aesthetic style Xu Beihong, oil painting with pastoral lyric style and the realization of nationalization oil painting. Chapter four demonstrates the research on the practice of art education research, including his educational philosophy adhering to Xu Beihong and also the address and summary of "Xu Beihong Art Education School". In chapter five the status and influence of Ai Zhongxin in the history of art are objectively studied and reviewed based on the development background of modern Chinese art history. He can be recognized as artists, art educator and also art critics, respectively whose artistic achievement has significant and positive meanings for the current creative arts, art education and art theory.
