Social anxiety is a problem that many college students are faced with in current society. It not only influences the normal interpersonal communication of students but even influences their mental and physical health, academic performance and future career, etc. Therefore, it is extremely important and urgent to study how to solve this common psychological problem of college students.This thesis conducts a specific survey of the social anxiety condition of525college students from6colleges in Shaanxi, Shanghai and Beijing. The author starts from the culture level of ego-self-construal, discusses its influence on social anxiety through questionnaires and analyzes the intermediation effect of self-esteem on self-construal and social anxiety through questionnaires and experimentation. The final conclusions are as following:(1) Now, there is a serious problem of social anxiety among college students in China.(2) There are significant differences among college students of different grades, genders, majors and origins in terms of social anxiety. Independent self-construal is significantly different in students of different grades, majors and origins. Interdependent self-construal is significantly different in students of different genders, grades and single-child status. Self-esteem is significantly different in students of different grades, majors and origins.(3) Social anxiety of college student has a significant positive correlation with interdependent self-construal, and a significant negative correlation with independent self-construal as well as self-esteem. There’s no correlation between social anxiety of college students and implicit self-esteem.(4) Self-construal directly influences social anxiety of college students. High level interdependent self-construal leads to high social anxiety. High level independent self-construal is favorable for reducing social anxiety.(5) Self-esteem plays an intermediation role in the influence of self-construal on social anxiety.
