Samuel Barber (1910—1981) was famous composers of modern American. Barber wasborn in the twentieth century in the United States. He was a master of melody writing, thusthere are reputation of "music poet". Barber’s composition had the title of "practitioners ofnew romantic music "because of tending to"romantic" of Europe in the19th century.Underthe influence of the composer of romantic theme in the19th century, Barber Kept in touchwith European tradition in the process of seeking the characteristics of American music andhe attached great importance to the expression of personal feelings, smooth melody,traditional harmony techniques in a large number of works and the traditional form. Therefore,he was also known as a conservative "romantic" composer. He’s composition is divided intothree periods: Bud, exploration phase and mature period. Barber composed a large number ofworks including every genre almost in his life and he was a talented composer.The spring of1935is significant year for barber. Barber won two awards of the Pulitzerscholarship and Rome prize for excellent composition. He get the opportunity to learn in theAmerican college of music built in Roman because of Roman bonus and then"The FirstSymphony"was composed by Barber in the long term learning."The first symphony" waswas composed in August1935, completed in February24,1936and modified in1942."Thefirst symphony" was premiered by the Rome augustus symphony orchestra On December13,1936on adriano theater in Rome. Then the premiere of "the first symphony" in the U.S.performed by the Cleveland orchestra led by Rodolf Ringwall on January21and23,1937inCleveland.New York Philharmonic finised three symphony orchestra’s performance under thecommand of ROM kinski On March24,1937at Carnegie Hall. In the same year in July,Rodzinski commanded and played again "the first symphony" in Salzburger Festspiele.It isthe first time that playing American composition in Salzburger Festspiele and barber alsoestablished status and reputation in the international music industry.The topic of the thesis consists of five parts,including introduction, three chapters andepilogue.The author discusses three aspects of the purpose and meaning of the thesis, researchstatus at home and abroad and research methods and thoughts in the introduction part. Thepredecessors’ research at home and abroad were summarized and the paper expounds thevalue and significance of thesis research and research methods and ideas of this article. The first chapter is about life of Samuel barber,time division of works and the creationoverview ofthe first symphony. Elucidating the life of Samuel barber and time division ofworks mainly further understand the composer’s style.The second chapter generalizes music creation features of the first symphony by analysisof musical noumenon including five aspects of form, theme and melody, rhythm and tempo,mode tonality and harmony, and orchestration in detail and summarizes the composer’screation technique.The third chapter summarizes the creation concept of composer in the first symphony onthe basis of music ontology analysis of the second chapter.The author puts forward to thecontinuation of "romantic" concept.Barber thought that the music is emotional and paiedattention to the emotional music and objected to the over-rationalized tendency of thecontemporary music creation. Then the author puts forward to the fusion of "modernism"ideas of Barber. Barber retained music style of the19th century, and learned from creationtechniques of modern music of the20th century. Finally, the author performs an analysisanalysis of the source of the "music creation. The author made interpretation of barber’screative ideas through these three aspects.Epilogue part summarized creation techniques and concepts of the first symphony ofSamuel Barber and made interpretation of the impact of creation idea.
