The very paper, based on Chinese Taoist interpretation of Qi, makes anprogressive analysis on the manifestation and function of Qi’s living style in artisticcreation. It is hoped that through this study, a recognition of the function of Qi andQi’s living style in artistic creation is formed and practical thinking mode issummarized and used in the practice of artistic creation as methodology of guidance.The paper is made up of three parts. The first part is a thorough review of thephilosophic connotation of Qi, including the definition and nature of Qi functioning inmedical and scientific areas in the three developmental stages of Taoist philosophy.Among them, the importance is attached to the functioning principle and nature of Qiand the evidence of Qi’s existence in medical and scientific areas. Through thisillustration, readers will have more specific understanding of Qi; the second partbased on the cognition above, illustrates the function of Qi’s living style in artisticcreation, supporting the point of view of the paper by the inference of definition,combining recent Chinese and western artistic theories. The focus is on thedemostration of the balance form of Qi functioning in life, and the connotation ofbalance form reflected in the artistic modeling principle and artistic aesthetic thought,and the function of the balance law as thinking mode for artistic creation.
